U4Act1: Fossils summary:
Fossil - Remains, impressions, tracks, or other evidence of ancient organisms.
Index Fossils: fossils of species that are good for estimating the age of other layers because they were widespread over the Earth and only existed for a short time (so their fossils are only found in a few layers).
Principle of Uniformitarianism - the idea that the same geologic processes that we see now occurred in Earth’s past as well.
Principle of Superposition - The oldest rock layers are on the bottom, newer layers are on the top.
