If you were out, see me to arrange when you will take the Wave Formative Assessment (Quiz) that we did in class today.
Copy the definition for Waves below, to the spot you left on page 93. Copy the definition below for frequency to page 95, or to page 94 if you don't have room on page 95.
Wave: a rhythmic movement that carries energy through matter or space.
Frequency: The number of wave oscillations per second, measured in Hertz (Hz) = 1 wave per second.
Copy the big questions for your block, shown below to your unit 6 connections pages, page 90 and 91. Try to write them separately so they aren't clumped together so you can diagram connections (strong, medium, weak) as we go.
Block 1:
Why are waves important to us?
What effects do waves have?
What types of waves are there?
Block 2:
What different kinds of waves are there, and why?
Where, how and why do waves form?
How small can waves be?
Block 5:
How do waves affect us?
What are waves made of?
What different kinds of waves are there?
Block 6:
Why and how do waves affect us?
Why are some waves more powerful than others?
How are waves formed?
What are some disasters caused by waves?
Lastly, all blocks but block 1 watched a video showing what the strings of a guitar look like from the inside of the guitar when they are played - it shows how the wavelength of the string vibration is different depending on the pitch of the note. You can watch the video by visiting the science blog and clicking the link.

If you were out, get a copy of the two notesheets that we were working on today and tape them into your journals on pages 96 and 97. Get copies of the two handouts with the readings that go along with the notes, and read page 305 from the heading “Waves” to the end of the page, then complete the notesheet.
Next, read page 308 from the heading “Light to the bottom of the page, including the speaking bubble towards the bottom that starts “The shorter the wavelength,... “
Complete the notesheet with the blank for your name on it (the other one doesn’t have a blank for your name) down to the heading that says “Visible Light”. After you have finished the notes, see me for the key.
